The Controller is an elected official.  The Controller's office maintains a continuous audit and prepares an annual post-audit of County revenues and accounts.  The office also conducts special audits as requested by the County Council or the County Executive, or as the Controller deems necessary.  The Controller cooperates with other auditing or evaluation organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Auditor General's Office, in order to maximize the extent of intergovernmental audit coordination.

The Controller's office presides over all bid openings. The County Controller serves as a voting member of the Erie County Retirement Board.

The Coroner is an elected official. The office investigates all sudden and suspicious deaths and all deaths due to violence, which include suicide. The Coroner is also authorized to investigate all deaths due to contagious disease constituting a public health hazard.

The District Attorney is an elected official. The District Attorney, as the chief law enforcement officer of the county, is mandated by law to sign all bills of indictment and conduct in court all criminal and other prosecutions in the name of the Commonwealth. The District Attorney has jurisdiction over all felony, misdemeanor and summary offenses. The office also provides legal guidance in criminal matters for various police agencies and county departments.

The Clerk of Records Offices include the Recorder of Deeds, Register of Wills, Prothonotary, and Clerk of Courts. They are responsible for all civil, criminal, real estate, wills, adoptions, and marriage records. These offices play such an integral role in the operation of Erie County Government.
