PRAYER WALKS and TENT MEETINGS
PRAYER FOR UNION CITY AREA – January 8, 2022
In reading about Union City and asking the Lord, “What is your intent for this land,” the thing that stands out to me (Cindy Matta) is manufacturing. Here’s the history I found from http://unioncitypa.us/history/, and from Karen Warnes blog – https://unioncitypennsylvaniaspastlives.weebly.com/
In 1800, Ireland native William Miles came to the south branch of French Creek. It was mostly unoccupied land full of virgin timber, swamps & general paths made by the Indians. He first built a much-needed sawmill and grist mill. In 1801, a blacksmith shop was set up. The settlement was named Miles Mills, later changed to Union Mills, and finally Union City. Miles also built a distillery for making hard liquor. This led to much trouble in the town.
Manufacturing – The early saw mills led to 9 furniture & woodworking companies (including Ethan Allen). Union City was once known as the “Chair capitol of the world.” It also had the largest barrel factory on the continent. Unfortunately, the town mills also suffered fires and had to be rebuilt and there were two disastrous floods. One in 1882 and 1892; the Union City Dam alleviated further flooding.
Churches – Presbyterian church organized in 1811; Methodist in 1817; St Teresa’s in 1857; Baptist 1858; United Brethren in 1872; Episcopal in 1875. There are separate cemeteries for Protestants & Catholic’s.

This date falls in the Hebrew month of Tevet – Tevet is associated with the tribe of Dan (Genesis 30:4-6).
Dan was given the artistic gifts and talents necessary to assist the tribe of Judah with building the furnishings for the temple (Exodus 31:6-9). Very interesting that we are praying for the past “Chair Capitol of the world” this month!
Prayer – Holy God, you are a good Father and have determined that your people shall live in this area. You are the giver of all good things and you made it possible for Union City to build and to thrive. We repent for when we have trusted in man’s own strong arm instead of depending on God. We ask you to lift any and all addictions and addictive behaviors from the people here.
And to all who are wise hearted in this land, we ask for wisdom and ability to make all that you have commanded (Exodus 31:6).
Scripture declaration – “But Union City shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:18). “The people of Union City know that You, whose name alone is the LORD, are the most high over all the earth” (Psalm 83:18). Be strong saints in Union City, in the LORD and His mighty power” (Ephesians 6:10)!

PRAYER FOR WATERFORD AREA – February 5, 2022
Some dedicated prayer warriors came out to gather in Waterford to pray and declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ! Many thanks to Susan Osborn for offering the warmth of the library and hot cocoa. We appreciate you and your ministry!
“Prayer is actually the foundation for every decree we make, for through a constant flow of communication with the Father, we are able more clearly to hear the words He would have us speak. We pray, connecting to the Father, then we decree, shifting the earth by marrying the power of prayer with the authority of the decree” (Declarations for Breakthrough by Jane Hamon).
History teaches, we aren’t the first people to decree sovereignty from this place. George Washington did it when he issued the “cease & desist” order to an occupying force at Fort LeBoeuf. Our prayer focus is to resist forces that bring division & strife and declare the goodness of God!
We also like to pay attention to what God teaches through His structure of the calendar. February 1 begins the month of Adar in the Hebrew calendar which is associated with the tribe of Naphtali. It is a month of removing restraints and entering into the joy and strength of the Lord! Like a deer let loose who is agile releasing the glory of the Lord (Genesis 49:21).
From this land we love, where historical declarations have changed the course of nations, we declare the following:

We declare Erie city & county has seen the Light and heard the sound! The people who still sit in darkness will see the Light of Christ and leap for joy. God’s government will reign and the Word of God will be spoken throughout the Erie Area. The region will be reformed (Matthew 4:1-11).
We declare that the discernment needed in these last days will be evident here. We will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not. Like a threshing instrument with sharp teeth, we will divide truth from lies. Wrong voices will be recognized and brought into the light (Isaiah 41:15-16).
We love Waterford!
A Waterford intercessor had seen a vision of a large silver coin laying in the ball field. This coin was effervescent with beams of light shining brightly from it. The coin had the words, “IN GOD WE TRUST”. We repented for when we have not trusted in God and declared the people of Waterford and the Erie area will know the You, whose name alone is the LORD, (Psalm 83:18)!
WE TRUST YOU GOD!

PRAYER FOR WATTSBURG AREA – March 5, 2022
At the request of PA Governor Mifflin, William Miles surveyed southeastern Erie County in 1785, and later founded Union City. He traveled by horse and by foot with his wife and children along with her sister and husband to reach this part of the frontier. It is said they were the first white women in this yet unexplored area. These were strong, brave women. Mrs. Miles’ sister birthed a child on route! During Miles’ second surveying trip, he came through what is present day Wattsburg. Having found what he called, “a delightful place of gently undulating hills, fertile valleys and profusion of fur bearing animals”, he cleared the land and built a temporary dwelling for his family of five. Miles named the place Wattsburg. ‘Watts” after his wife’s father David Watts, and “burgh” being the Scottish name for town.

Later that year, Mr. David Watts visited the land and also being strongly impressed with its situation, bought 1,440 acres in present day Wattsburg borough and Venango Township. He bought the land for speculation and didn’t stay to live here. Meanwhile the Miles family moved on to develop Union City. Neither founder made this place their home. Wattsburg sits between two branches of French Creek and the convergence of those branches. With an abundance of water near-by, the town had a bright future. And it did grow; Presbyterians, Methodists and later Baptists built churches; farming was excellent. A Grange was erected, there was a hotel and trading post, a newspaper and schools as well as Postal Service between Jamestown and Erie.
Of note, there were secret societies formed in the area, even more than the Masonic Lodges placed in every town across America. One such organization was a society of medical professionals who relied solely on natural healing, forbidding any other kind of medical aid to treat its members. They called themselves the Thomsonian Society. An 1850’s letter by then Post Master & owner of the Wattsburg Hotel, Lyman Robinson, stated that a fairly large number of people suffered and died because of the society. In 1875 a Masonic Blue Lodge was built followed by the Knights of Honor lodge and many other fraternal organizations.
Given our current events, I thought this was an interesting story: In 1853 the Erie-Wattsburg plank road was completed. This toll road had three toll gates along the route. The toll was .31 cents for a double team and .25 cents for a single team. No prices were given for the persons traveling on horseback. This plank road continued being used till about 1865, when irate farmers descended in droves upon the toll gates and burnt them to the ground. They were never rebuilt and no one could be found to place the blame upon, so the toll road became a thing of the past. It was hoped that the RR would follow the well-established stagecoach lines headquartered in Wattsburg but the decision was made to lay track through Union City and Waterford enroute to Erie. This, along with numerous floods and a devastating fire in 1920, spelled the end of Wattsburg growth. Today the area is still rich in farm land and agricultural businesses, is home to the Erie County Fair and the Eriez Speedway. However, according to the 2010 census, fewer than 400 people reside in the borough, 51% of those over 65 live in poverty. Main Street Wattsburg is pretty rough. The Wattsburg School District educates children from the borough and four neighboring townships.

Decree:
Yahweh, we know you to be a good Father (and a good farmer), you have created good land here in Wattsburg and surrounding townships. You have affirmed and sustained this place of new birth and it has always been in your heart to reclaim your land for righteousness. There is good seed in this ground yet to mature and we call it forth today (Genesis 1:10). In this time of germination, we ask that ungodly seeds lie dormant as good seed thrives.
We repent for turning away from You Lord, we repent for trusting in the strength of our own arms in acts of rebellion and we repent for resentment & self-pity. We cry out to God on behalf of Your people here. We renounce the disgraceful things hidden because of shame; we reject walking in trickery and adulterating the word of God. We will speak the truth openly and plainly, (especially from the pulpit), (II Corinthians 4:2), not usurping God’s authority through the Church.
We ask that Holy Spirit set up a spirit speed trap in Wattsburg. People ready to receive Jesus and Lord & Savior would come on the radar and be arrested with Your presence. Their debt is paid, may they trust in you Lord. We also pray fulfillment of your original design for all the groups highlighted on the front of the building. Pray for the individuals on Wattsburg council.
Salt is designed to stop decay. As we stand on this sidewalk covered in salt, we decree a stop to decay in this community! We call in new businesses and entrepreneurs with new ideas and witty inventions. Remove depression and lack and replace with prosperity. We see this community as a happy place where the joy of the Lord is the people’s strength! Any “community” with dark or evil intent must be displaced in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We see much hope deferred in this place but your Word also says desire fulfilled is a tree of life (Proverb 13:12). People of Wattsburg and SE Erie County, our hope is in the LORD who made heaven and earth! We are not abandoned or orphaned (John 14:18), the Lord Almighty will fight for us! We speak to deceiving spirits who have lied their way into hope deferred hearts, your time here is finished! “In the path of Your judgements, O Lord, we wait expectantly for You; our heartfelt desire is for Your name and for the remembrance of You” (Isaiah 26:8).
This is a month of removing restraints and entering into the joy and strength of the Lord! Like a deer let loose who is agile releasing the glory of the Lord (Genesis 49:21). There is a double portion this month and we decree that double portion for Your people here. We call forth the righteous to inherit the land and dwell upon it forever (Psalm 37:29)!

PRAYER for Unity between City & County – NOVEMBER 5, 2022
Dear PrayErie team,
Inspired by something our County Executive said in regard to Erie’s early history, this prayer focus was formed. Please join your prayers with others who love this land, tomorrow, Saturday, November 5, 9:20-10:30 at the east parking lot of Erie First Assembly, at the Bury the Hatchet site.
Unity between city & county:
The first settlers established a camp site on the shores of Presque Isle in 1795. And it was only 17 years later that the US was involved in the war of 1812 when Erie was chosen as the site to build ships for a fleet to protect the U.S. interest in the Great Lakes. That is astounding as there were only 400 to 500 people living in this small hamlet. Industry consisted of one grinding mill and one sawmill, one blacksmith shop, and a tannery. And, of course, the Trading Post established by the Reed Family. The land was occupied by farmers, merchants, sailors, and wagoneers (for the salt trade). Nearby Buffalo also had about 500 people, Cleveland only had 47 residents and no industry, Pittsburgh had 6000 occupants at the time. Nevertheless, with Daniel Dobbins encouragement, President Madison determined that a fleet could be built in this wilderness. And in fact, it was built, in eight months’ time.
One of the many challenges that had to be overcome, was securing the manpower to build the ships. According to Daniel Dobbins personal journal, farm laborers were enticed to leave the farms, come to the “city” and build ships. This created a conflict between the farmers and the shipbuilders as the farmers were then shorthanded.
Our prayer today is to redeem any discord that might remain between city and county.

Romans 14:19, 16:17-18 (TPT) So then, make it your top priority to live a life of peace with harmony in your relationships, eagerly seeking to strengthen and encourage one another.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, I’d like to give one final word of caution: Watch out for those who cause divisions and offenses among you. When they antagonize you by speaking of things that are contrary to the teachings that you’ve received, don’t be caught in their snare! For people like this are not truly serving the Lord, our Messiah, but are being driven by their own desires for a following. Utilizing their smooth words and well-rehearsed blessings, they seek to deceive the hearts of innocent ones.
The sky was filled with “crosses” and a fire rainbow (located at what would be 6:30 on a clock face) as we prayed!
Loving God, loving people,
Cindy Matta
